Senior year is a big deal. And your photos should feel that way too…. not like a generic photo backdrop, but like a real editorial moment that captures exactly who you are right now.
That’s what urban senior photography is all about. Modern locations, sleek backdrops, and images that have a magazine-quality edge. If your senior has a personality worth celebrating (spoiler: they do), the right urban setting makes all the difference.
Fall leaves and fields are beautiful. But today’s seniors want their portraits to feel current. They want variety in location, interesting textures, and photos that look like something out of a publication – not a yearbook package from 2008.
Urban settings deliver all of that. And in the OKC metro, there are some genuinely incredible spots to work with.
Sawyer came in knowing exactly what he wanted.
He’d seen the mirrored background at Leadership Square and knew it was his vibe. His black suit? Very GQ and perfect for the mirrored walls at Leadership Square.
Sawyer is a wrestler… serious enough to compete next year in college, but also a pretty relaxed, funny guy. (Sidenote: He did backflips on the concrete and I about died of a heart attack.)
He also brought an anime hoodie he loves. Would you pack an anime sweatshirt for fall family photos? Probably not. But for senior photos? It was absolutely perfect because that is HIM. And the hoodie looked PERFECT in an urban environment.
And that’s the whole point. Senior portraits should reflect your style and interests. And oftentimes, urban senior photography locations can support your look.

If you’re planning an urban session, here are the spots I keep coming back to:
That mirrored glass exterior is a showstopper. It works beautifully for a sleek, editorial look – especially for seniors who want something polished and very magazine-worthy.

This one blends the best of both worlds. You get lush greenery AND the downtown OKC skyline in the background. It’s also a quick walk to the Omni, which gives us great flexibility for location swaps.

Exposed brick, industrial charm, and excellent natural light. This one photographs beautifully and feels a little more laid-back and artsy. This is my go-to spot for seniors who want photos with their car. No worries about crowds, parking, or having enough space.

A great option if you’re based north of the city. Charming storefronts, good light, and a walkable stretch that gives us variety without a long commute to downtown OKC.
This arts district is unlike anywhere else in OKC. Colorful, textured, and full of character – perfect for seniors who have a creative or artistic side.

Bright murals, wide sidewalks, and rustic charm. This one is consistently a client favorite for bold, eye-catching images.
A great location only gets you so far. Here’s how to make sure the session itself goes smoothly:
Seriously – this one tip changes everything. Parking, final touch-ups, and a quick outfit check all happen before we start. Urban locations typically require additional time finding parking and then walking. Plan on allowing plenty of time!
A quick text or email works perfectly. When I can see your clothing choices in advance, I can plan which locations to hit in which order – and factor in any outfit swaps along the way. It makes a real difference.
Urban sessions involve more walking than a single-location shoot. Bring sandals for the longer walks between spots. Your feet will thank you later.
Senior portraits are one of the few times in your teen’s life when the photos are entirely about them.
Not the family. Not the school directory. Just them – their personality, their passions, their style – captured right at this moment before everything changes.
That’s why I love urban senior photography so much. The variety of locations, the flexibility, the ability to go from polished and editorial to casual and creative all in one session.
And those are always the photos families love most.

If your senior is ready for portraits that actually reflect who they are, I’d love to work with you.
I serve families and seniors across the OKC metro – including Edmond, Norman, Nichols Hills, Yukon, Moore and beyond.
