2025 Spring Break Ideas in Oklahoma City

Read the post

Looking for an unforgettable spring break in Oklahoma City? Whether you’re planning a week of family-friendly fun, cultural experiences, or outdoor adventures…. here are some great 2025 Spring Break ideas in Oklahoma City.

I have created a list of my best ideas to make your OKC staycation Spring Break as fun as possible. In fact, my own family is doing quite a few of these activities this year too!

Best Spring Break Activities in Oklahoma City for Families

1. Wheels on Rails

Ok, I haven’t done this yet but Instagram keeps telling me I should try it…. Wheels on Rails is a combination of bike riding and railroad exploring – as a group you pedal on rail tracks to explore. Sounds kinda run, right?

2. Scissortail Park: Outdoor Fun for All Ages

Spanning over 70 acres, Scissortail Park is the ultimate spring break destination for families. Let the kids run wild on the sprawling playground, rent a pedal boat at the lake, or enjoy a picnic with skyline views. We love to play pickleball as a family (it’s free!). Check their event calendar for live music, food trucks, and outdoor yoga sessions. On a beautiful day it is my favorite place to walk! Tip: Grab a bite to eat at Spark. They have the BEST grain bowl & chicken nuggets! My family also loves their burgers.

2. Oklahoma City Zoo & Botanical Garden

Spring is the perfect time to visit the Oklahoma City Zoo. Catch the seasonal animal encounters, explore the new Expedition Africa habitat, and let the kids cool off at the splash pad. For a unique experience, book an animal encounter with giraffes or the parakeets!

3. Science Museum Oklahoma: Hands-On Learning

If your kids love interactive exhibits, Science Museum Oklahoma is a must-visit. From exploring the Tinkering Garage to stepping into the astronaut training zone, the museum makes learning fun for all ages. Don’t miss the Kirkpatrick Planetarium for an out-of-this-world experience that is fun for kids and adults.

4. Okana Resort: A Premier Spring Break Escape

Opening in March 2025, Okana is set to redefine the resort experience in Oklahoma City’s Horizons District. With 11 pools, 13 dining options, wave pools, an arcade, indoor and outdoor water slides, and a luxurious spa, this destination is designed for families, couples, and solo travelers looking for relaxation and adventure.

Cultural & Arts Activities for a Memorable Spring Break

5. Oklahoma City Museum of Art: Family-Friendly Exhibits

Introduce your kids to the arts at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. Special spring break programs include hands-on art workshops and kid-friendly gallery tours. The Dale Chihuly glass exhibit is a must-see! Also the 80th anniversary of the museum is this year…. the newest exhibition is a must!

Did you know that I am a Moderns Board Member at the museum? Yes! It’s one of my favorite titles and I will always suggest a trip to the OKCMOA. Reach out to me if you plan to go – I LOVE to chat about our amazing museum!

6. Factory Obscura: An Immersive Art Experience

For a creative, mind-bending adventure, visit Factory Obscura’s interactive art installation, Mix-Tape. Kids and adults alike will love exploring this psychedelic, hands-on exhibit full of surprises. If you have been to Meow Wolf, you will appreciate OKC’s immersive art experience!

7. National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum

Step into the Old West with engaging exhibits, interactive children’s areas, and live demonstrations. Kids can pan for gold, learn to rope, and explore Western history in a fun and educational way. This would be my choice if the weather isn’t great. It’s such a big building that you don’t even feel when it gets busy.

8. The SpongeBob Musical at Pollard Theatre

March 14-April 5 | 120 W Harrison Ave, Guthrie

Follow SpongeBob and his friends as they band together to save their home from an impending volcanic eruption. This fun-filled, family-friendly musical is perfect for ages 6 and up. Ticket prices: Adults, $35; Kids (12 & under), $10. Check the theatre’s website for showtimes.

9. FREE St. Patrick’s Day Parade at Stockyards City

March 15 | S Agnew Ave, OKC

Celebrate Irish and Western heritage at this festive parade featuring food trucks, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities. The parade kicks off at 10 a.m.

Road Trip Ideas for Spring Break

If you’re up for an adventure beyond OKC, consider these fantastic road trip destinations:

Osage Hills & Pawhuska

Explore the natural beauty of Osage Hills State Park with its hiking trails, scenic views, and wildlife spotting. After a day outdoors, head to Pawhuska for unique boutique shopping and delicious dining options, including The Pioneer Woman Mercantile for a classic country-style meal. Pawhuska is the CUTEST town!

Tulsa: Art & Culture Escape

Tulsa offers a vibrant cultural scene, perfect for a quick spring break getaway. Visit the Philbrook Museum of Art, an Italian-style villa with stunning gardens and world-class exhibits. Enjoy a stroll through the lively Tulsa Arts District for unique galleries, shops, and excellent dining. And of course, no trip to Tulsa is complete without a stop at the Gathering Place!

Ponca City: History & Hidden Gems

Step back in time at the Marland Mansion, an architectural marvel with fascinating history. Fun fact: the architect of the Marland Mansion is my step-great-grandfather! Afterward, grab a bite at Enrique’s Mexican Restaurant, located at the Ponca City Airport—a local favorite known for its famous homemade chips and salsa. It’s fun to watch the planes fly in.

Medicine Park: Outdoor Fun & Small-Town Charm

Nestled in the Wichita Mountains, Medicine Park is a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Hike through stunning trails, enjoy a meal at the beloved Plantation Restaurant (our family’s fave restaurant in town), and explore charming local shops. If visiting in the summertime, bring swimsuits for the kids to enjoy the refreshing creek waters that wind through town. Or, if you have a fisherman like my son, bring a your pole! My kids LOVE when we make a day trip to Medicine Park.

Spring Break Planning Tips

  • Go Early: Popular attractions like the zoo and Science Museum Oklahoma get pretty busy. I prefer to go first thing in the morning.
  • Stay Downtown for Convenience: If you’re visiting from out of town, book a hotel near Scissortail Park or Bricktown to be within walking distance of key attractions. The Omni is always a great choice!
